Australian Visas

Do I need a visa to visit Australia?

Generally, if you are not from a Commonwealth country you will need to apply for a visa to come to Australia. You have to apply for it at the closest Australian Embassy to you.
The Australian system of visas is very straight forward:

  • there are many different types of visas (student, work, dependant visa etc.)
  • applicants from different countries have different conditions to get visas
  • conditions of student visa can also vary according to different type of course/ school
  • the visa conditions changes quite often

The main types of visas

  • Student visa - the most popular type of visa if your main purpose is to study in Australia. Click here for further information.
  • Working Holiday visa - with a working holiday visa you can stay in Australia for up to 12 month, either studying or just working during your stay. This type of visa is available only for students from certain countries. Click here for further information.

  • Tourist visa - the right visa for people who want to visit Australia for holidays, visit family and friends, or study for less than three months. This visa will not allow you to work in Australia and you can apply for period up to 12 months. Click here for further information.
