General Information

  • Canberra was chosen as Australia’s capital as they were unable to decided between Melbourne and Sydney!
  • Lake Burley Griffin runs through Canberra, where you can go kayaking, sailing or paddleboating.
  • The Lake is 11 kilometres long and has the James Cook fountain in the middle to celebrate the landing of Captain James Cook in Australia!
  • Canberra is about 280 kilometres from Sydney and 660 kilometres from Melbourne.

National Gallery of Australia

Australian War Memorial

This is a tribute to all the men and women who fought in the war. They have many pictures and images showing how they fought and how they lived during this horrible time. Parliament House

This is the building where the laws and regulations that protect and govern Australia are made. The public are allowed to sit in during these parliamentary sessions and see how the Ministers argue their points and opinions.

Visitors are welcomed to come and walk around Parliament House and see the interior design and artwork used throughout the building.
